Nikolay Khozyainov - People's Choice Prize Winner, Sydney International Piano Competition

Snowy Monaro Arts Council is proud to be hosting a visit by Nikolay Khozyainov - this year's winner of the People's Choice Award at the Sydney International Piano Competition.

Nikolay was born in Blagoveshchensk, Russia and is studying at the Pyotr Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory under professor Mikhail Voskresensky.

At only 18 Nikolay was the youngest finalist of the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2010, awarded with distinction. Following is a list of his achievements thus far:
2003 - 1st Prize and Special Prize - Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte - Czech Republic (aged 11)
2004 - 1st Prize - Ninth International Carl Filtsch Piano Competition - Romania (aged 12)
2008 - 1st Prize - Piano Competition A Scriabin - France (aged 16)
2010 - Special Prize Winner, Youngest Finalist of the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Poland (aged 18)
2012 - 1st Prize - Dublin International Piano Competition - Ireland

Then, at the Sydney International Piano Competition held in July this year he claimed not only the People's Choice but also:
2nd Prize
Sydney Symphony Orchestra Prize for best overall performance of the two Concertos
Prize for the best performance of a work by Liszt
Prize for the best performance of a Study by Liszt in Stage 1
Prize for the best performance of a work by Schubert
Prize for the best performance of the Virtuoso Study in Stage 1
Prize for the youngest Finalist

Nikolay has wowed audiences in the renowned concert halls of Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Malaysia, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, France, USA and Japan.

We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing this brilliant young man to Cooma on Sunday 16 September for a recital at 3:00pm in St Paul's Anglican Parish Hall.

Tickets are $25 Adult, $20 Concession, $15 Snowy Monaro Arts Council Member, $5 Student. The tickets are available at The Fabric Salon in Cooma, and at the door from 2:30pm.
